tristania

It had been a long while since I heard a real doom-metal act do such a good job until I listened to Tristania. This Norwegian band has managed to create some beautiful and emotive songs that, if not totally innovate, they do reflect a personality of its own.

Tristania has incorporated to its music all the elements that distinguish a doom metal band: slow and emotive guitars, atmospheric keyboard sounds, deep growling vocals, a soft soprano voice and, more typical every day, a violin soloist. However, Tristania has also added to its creations what only a few bands can: true musical and performing quality. The melodies are amazing, the vocal arrangements are fabulous, the sound could difficultly be better.

I must admit that lately I haven't been really enthusiastic with doom metal bands; everyone is doing it but almost nobody is worth hearing. And that's a total shame for us who like that music genre that much. Fortunately, there are at least some bands like Tristania, to give us some hope on the future of good ol' doom.
