celestial season

I first got to know Celestial Season from a metal radio show, where they transmitted their song 'above azure oceans'', from the DEATH... is just the beginning III compilation by Nuclear Blast. I was astonished. I had never heard such combination of metal and classical music, resulting a slow, sorrowful piece, of amazing beauty and sadness.

Their first and second albums, Forever Scarlet Passion and Solar Lovers are just as fascinating. The music is romantic and inspiring; two violins add soothing melodies to the clever guitar and bass riffs. We have some grunts (not as good as they should be...) and some male spoken vocals as well, that fit just perfectly. Once in a while, a cello or a keyboard also help the songs to find that perfect mood.

There are also a few up tempo songs, in which the direction the band was to take later could be intuited: a much more 70's style metal, that completely moves away from their doomy beginnings. The EP Sonic Orb and the Orange album are absolutely different to their previous releases; the violins and grunts are gone, and a new clean vocalist (he has a very good voice tho) takes over all singing parts. Yet, from what I can tell by listening to a few samples, the music does still have quality. I guess it's up to each to decide whether this is true or not, but I must say I agree with the opinion that they should have used a different band name when 'Sonic Orb' was to come out.

I highly recommend you visit:
