Within Temptation are yet another band that uses that typical growl-female vocal contrast. They have been compared to The Gathering several times, yet I can't really find much similarity in their style. Of course, they do have some points in common, that I can only describe as that distinctive 'Dutch sound' most bands from Holland share.
Anyway, Within Temptation's music does perfectly fit in the doom metal category. Their album Enter is a very fine piece of work, in which really nice guitars combine with the always present keyboard sound, that is definitely a base of the band's sound. The vocals done Sharon den Adel are quite good; her voice is soft and angelical, yet from time to time she raises it up a little bit, which distinguishes her from resembling Liv Christine too much.
In short, Within Temptation are a very promising band, and hopefully they will continue to make good music in the search for what could be a unique personality of their own.
