my dying bride

I was still amazed by Celestial Season's 'above azure oceans' when a good friend of mine listened to it and told me "if you like that, you should definitely listen to My Dying Bride". The name got stuck in my head, so when I saw Like Gods of the Sun and Trinity I immediately decided I should have them.

Once again I was dazed; this music was devastating, as I had never heard before. Like Gods of the Sun I liked, but Trinity grew on me, it was just a perfect combination of great, slow guitar riffs, a marvellous growl, a beautiful keyboard sound and a simple, yet wonderful violin melody to add on to that unique atmosphere.

You can then imagine my reaction when I bought The Angel and the Dark River. Although I missed that great growling voice, those songs simply dragged me into a completely different world. This album has, in my opinion, the best violin melodies of all MDB albums, and that was another reason why I liked it so much. Each song is a long, mysterious voyage into a realm of its own. The world could end while you're listening to it and you wouldn't even notice.

My boyfriend gave me then the Turn Loose the Swans album as a Christmas gift, and then I new that this was the one that topped them all. Even though Aaron's singing voice sounds so much better in The Angel... and Like Gods..., in Turn Loose the Swans both clean and growling vocals combine perfectly, to create several changes of mood within a song. Besides that, the music is simply amazing, I could hardly describe all the emotions contained inside it.

In short, My Dying Bride's music is highly emotional, filled with sadness sometimes, and with anger and despair some others. Every album they've made is an absolute masterpiece of true doom metal and, in my opinion, a must have in every competent CD collection.
